Hydralazine 8). CBC and Antinuclear Antibody tests (ANA) should be performed
(Tablet) time to time to find out the drug induced blood dyscrasia (abnormality
in blood) and lupus erythematosus. A positive ANA test is required to
weigh the risk against the benefits from the drug.
Minoxidil 10-40 mg per 1). Minoxidil (Loniten) is a peripheral arterial vasodilator. It is indicated
(Tablet) day in single or for the treatment of severe hypertension (only).
(Topical divided doses.
solution) Do not exceed 2). Because of the potential for serious adverse effects, Minoxidil
100 mg per day. (Loniten) is indicated only in the treatment of hypertension that is
symptomatic or associated with target organ damage and is not
manageable with maximum therapeutic doses of a diuretic plus two
other antihypertensive drugs.
3). It must be administered under close supervision, usually
concomitantly with therapeutic doses of a beta-adrenergic blocking
agent to prevent tachycardia and increased myocardial workload. It
must also usually be given with a diuretic, frequently one acting in the
ascending limb of the loop of Henle, to prevent serious fluid
accumulation.
4). Hypertrichosis is the principal side effect of the drug. It is defined as
an excessive hair growth on face, arms and back. It appears within 3 to
6 weeks after the initiation of the therapy. The hair growth returns to
normal after the discontinuation of the drug.
5). Hypertrichosis, salt and water retentions, tachycardia and
nausea/vomiting are reported side effects of the drug.
6). Minoxidil Topical Solution (Rogaine) is indicated for the treatment
of male pattern baldness.
7). Minoxidil (Loniten) is devoid of orthostatic hypotension effects
since it does not interfere with vasomotor reflexes.
