Nicardipine a). 30-60 mg PO 1). Cardene SR is available in hard gelatin capsules containing 30 mg, 45
(Capsule) B.I.D. mg or 60 mg Nicardipine hydrochloride. All strengths contain a two

2). To reduce the possibility of venous thrombosis, phlebitis, local
irritation, swelling, extravasation, and the occurrence of vascular
impairment, Nicardipine should be administered via large peripheral
veins or central veins rather than arteries or small peripheral veins,
such as those on the dorsum of the hand or wrist. To minimize the risk
of peripheral venous irritation, a pharmacist should change the site of
the drug infusion every 12 hours.

3). Nicardipine (Cardene) is indicated for the treatment of
                                                hypertension.

4). Nicardipine (Cardene) is a preferred Calcium channel blocker to use
with beta-blockers since it has less effect on heart rate and A.V. node
conduction compared to other Calcium-channel blockers.

Bepridil 200-400 mg PO 1). Bepridil (Vascor) is indicated for the treatment of chronic stable
(Tablet) QD. If nausea is angina.
                               experienced
                               with Bepridil,
                               the drug may be
                               given with
                               meals or at
                               bedtime.

Common Side Effects of Calcium Channel Blockers: Hypotension, bradycardia, headache, peripheral edema,
constipation (Verapamil) and heart failure (Diltiazem and Verapamil).

Drug Interactions with Calcium Channel Blockers:

Beta-blockers With Bepridil, Verapamil and Diltiazem, they may produce the additive A.V.
                                      node suppression.

Calcium supplements May reduce the pharmacological effects of Calcium channel blockers.
               like OsCal and Tums

Cimetidine May inhibit CP450 metabolism and elevate serum concentration of calcium
                                      channel blockers.
