Tocainide 400 mg PO every 1). Tocainide (Tonocard) is a primary amine analog of lidocaine. It is
(Tablet) 8 hours. indicated for the treatment of sustained ventricular tachycardia.

2). Blood dyscrasias, agranulocytosis, bone marrow depression,
leukopenia, pulmonary fibrosis and pulmonary edema are reported
                                                 side effects of Tocainide.

Phenytoin 50-100 mg 1). A normal therapeutic serum concentration of Phenytoin (Dilantin)
(Capsule) SLOW IV every is generally ranged between 10 and 20 mcg/ml.
               (Capsule, ER) 5-15 min as
(Tablet) needed to 2). Phenytoin (Dilantin) is indicated for the treatment of ventricular
               (Tablet, maximum of 1 tachycardia.
               Chewable) gram.
(Oral 3). Gum inflammation is commonly reported during the first six
suspension) months of treatment with Phenytoin (Dilantin). Gingival hyperplasia,
ataxia, nystagmus, nausea and vertigo are commonly reported side
                                                 effects of Phenytoin.

Mexiletine 200 mg to 300 mg 1. Mexiletine (Mexitil) is indicated for the treatment of sustained
(Capsule) PO every 8 hours ventricular tachycardia.
                                with food or
                                antacids.
                                                 2. Since the severity of CNS side effects increases with total daily dose,
the total dose should not exceed 1200 mg/day.

                                                 3. Taking this medication with food or an antacid helps to decrease
certain side effects (nausea, heartburn). Palpitation, chest pain,
nausea, vomiting and liver injury are commonly reported side effects.

               Drug Interactions with Tocainide:

Beta-blockers Concurrent use with Tocainide (Tonocard) may result in an
                                                  additive AV node suppression.

               Drug Interactions with Mexiletine:

Antacids, Carbonic An alkalinization of urine may reduce the renal excretion of
               anhydrase inhibitors Mexiletine (Mexitil).

NH 4Cl, Vitamin C An acidification of urine may increase the renal excretion of
                                                  Mexiletine (Mexitil).

Metoclopramide May increase the absorption of Mexiletine (Mexitil).

Theophylline Renal clearance of Theophylline may decrease; toxicities of
                                                  Theophylline may increase.
