Isosorbide 30-120 mg PO once daily. 1). Venous vasodilation produced by nitrates is mainly
mononitrate responsible for their antianginal actions. The dilation of
Tablets (ER) coronary blood vessels reduces the preload of the heart
Tablet (by reducing left ventricular volume) and reduces its
oxygen requirements. Isosorbide mononitrate is the active
metabolite of Isosorbide dinitrate.
2). Isosorbide mononitrate (Imdur) is indicated to prevent
an angina attack. It will NOT treat an angina attack that
has already begun.
3). Patients should not use Isosorbide mononitrate (Imdur)
if they are taking Sildenafil (Viagra, Revatio). Serious, life-
threatening side effects can occur if patients take this
medicine with Sildenafil.
4). Isosorbide mononitrate (Imdur) can cause severe
headaches, especially when one first starts using it. These
headaches may gradually become less severe as one
continues to use the medication.
5). Severe headache, hypotension and lightheadedness are
principal side effects of Isosorbide mononitrate (Imdur).
6). Tablets should not be chewed or crushed. Patients can
split 60 mg or 120 mg tablets to half. Patients should NOT
break 30 mg tablet.
