Did not pass the FPGEE on your first attempt? This page explains how FPGEE retakes work, including the 2-year eligibility window, when you need to re-register, when you must reapply to the FPGEC program, and the 5-attempt limit.
Quick answer
Yes. If you do not pass the FPGEE, you may retake it as long as your FPGEC eligibility period has not expired and you have not reached the maximum number of attempts. If your eligibility period has expired, you will need to reapply to the FPGEC program before testing again. The FPGEE is typically offered once per year.

Policy overview
Yes. NABP allows FPGEC candidates to retake the FPGEE if they remain within their eligibility window and have not exhausted the total number of attempts allowed. If you are still within the active acceptance period for your FPGEC application, you can usually re-register through your NABP e-Profile and pay the retake fee.
The FPGEE is not offered year-round, so missing one administration may delay your next attempt significantly.
If your 2-year eligibility period has not expired, you can retest by re-registering and paying the retake fee.
Eligibility
Your FPGEC acceptance period matters. NABP says you have 2 years from acceptance to take and pass the FPGEE. If the next FPGEE administration falls within that active period, you can log in and purchase a new FPGEE registration rather than starting over from scratch.
This is one of the biggest reasons candidates should not wait too long after an unsuccessful attempt. Because the exam is normally offered once annually, delaying your preparation can cause your eligibility window to close before the next administration.
Attempt limits
NABP states that eligible FPGEC candidates may attempt the FPGEE a maximum of 5 times. That makes each attempt valuable, especially because the test is offered only once per year.
Because the total attempt limit is capped, a retake should be approached with a better study plan, more targeted review, and consistent timed practice rather than repeating the exact same strategy.
Retake steps
If your eligibility period has not expired, the retake process is straightforward:
If your eligibility period has already expired, you will need to submit a new FPGEC Certification application before you can become eligible again. NABP says previously submitted documentation will be reviewed as part of that process.
Reapplication
You need to reapply if you did not pass the FPGEE before your application expiration date and still want to continue. NABP explains that candidates who took the FPGEE fewer than 5 times but whose application expired must reapply to the FPGEC program.
This is different from a simple retake registration. Reapplying is a larger process, so it is better to stay within your active window whenever possible.
Preparation
Do not treat a retake as a repeat of the same preparation. The FPGEE covers a broad range of subjects, including biomedical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, social and behavioral sciences, and clinical sciences. Your second attempt should be more focused and structured than the first.
