What is the FPGEE?

The Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination evaluates pharmacy knowledge for internationally educated pharmacists seeking FPGEC certification. It is part of a broader evaluation pathway rather than a U.S. pharmacist license. Certification and subsequent licensure have separate requirements.

Preparation should combine science fundamentals with pharmacy application. Learn how concepts connect to medication use, patient care, calculations, and pharmacy decision-making instead of relying only on isolated facts.

Eligibility and registration

Begin with the FPGEC application process and wait for acceptance before registering for the FPGEE. Once registered, an Authorization to Test provides scheduling instructions. Check the current administration dates and deadlines directly with NABP.

For test day, follow the current identification requirements. NABP instructs candidates to bring their accepted primary ID with a name matching the ATT and e-Profile, and to arrive 30 minutes early.

FPGEE exam format

The computerized fixed-form exam contains 200 questions and allows 4.5 hours of testing. Total seat time is 5.5 hours. It is offered annually, making advance planning important. Use the official outline to organize preparation.

Core areas to review

  • Biomedical sciences and the foundations needed to understand health and disease.
  • Pharmaceutical sciences, including drug properties and medication-related calculations.
  • Social, behavioral, and administrative pharmacy concepts.
  • Clinical sciences and practical patient-care applications.
  • Mixed practice that connects foundational knowledge with pharmacy decisions.

FPGEE passing score and results

The passing scaled score is 75. NABP generally posts results in the Foreign Pharmacy section of e-Profile about eight weeks after the exam. Passing is one component of the FPGEC certification process.

Retakes and the eligibility window

FPGEC candidates have a maximum of five FPGEE attempts. Within an active two-year eligibility period, a candidate who fails may re-register and pay the retake fee. If eligibility has expired, a new FPGEC application is required. Plan around the next annual administration.

A focused FPGEE study plan

Choose a preparation schedule that fits your starting knowledge and exam date. Use one primary learning resource, then add practice and targeted reinforcement rather than collecting overlapping materials.

The supplied study plan emphasizes explanation-based learning: make notes while answering questions, connect facts to their underlying concepts, and revisit repeated mistakes. Calculations and management topics deserve deliberate review when they are weak areas.

  • Early phase: rebuild biomedical and pharmaceutical foundations.
  • Middle phase: connect clinical and administrative topics with question practice.
  • Later phase: use timed mixed sets and revisit the areas missed most often.
  • Final review: use your notes and error log instead of adding many new resources.

Choosing FPGEE study materials

Use the PharmacyExam FPGEE preparation page to compare books, digital materials, and combo packs. A combined resource can be useful if you need broad review; targeted materials are useful when you already know which subjects need reinforcement.

After an unsuccessful attempt, change the study method as well as the schedule. Explain why each answer is right or wrong and use timed practice to build consistency.

Frequently asked questions

Does passing the FPGEE give me a pharmacist license?

No. FPGEC certification and state pharmacist licensure are separate processes with additional requirements.

How should I use practice questions?

Review explanations, record the concepts you missed, and repeat those topics before progressing to longer mixed sessions.

What if my eligibility period expires?

Check the FPGEC reapplication requirements before registering for another administration.
