Disorder Cause Signs & Symptoms
Cushing’s syndrome Excessive secretion of Obesity, hypertension,
glucocorticosteroid (cortisol) weakness, hirsutism, edema
hormone. osteoporosis and weight gain.
Addison’s disease Reduced secretion of Weakness, anorexia, nausea,
glucocorticosteroid hormone. vomiting, weight loss, increased
skin and mucosal pigmentation,
hypotension.
Conn’s syndrome Excessive production of Hypokalemia, muscle weakness,
Aldosterone. fatigue, polyuria and polydipsia.
Hyperparathyroidism Excessive production of PTH. Increased serum calcium,
decrease serum phosphate,
muscle weakness, easy fatigue
and muscle atrophy.
Hypoparathyroidism Reduced production of PTH. Low serum calcium, raise serum
phosphate, neuromuscular
irritability, tetany, convulsion
and hypokalemia.
Diabetes mellitus Reduced or complete absence Polydipsia, polyuria,
of insulin-secretion. hyperglycemia, polyphagia, dry
skin, fatigue and weakness.
Dwarfism Hyposecretion of growth Reduced height (3 feet),
hormone in young. improper development of sex
organ, normal intelligence and
metabolism.
Acromicria Hyposecretion of growth The bones of hands, face and
hormone in adult. feet are small. Loss of hair and
sexual function.
Acromegaly Hypersecretion of growth The overgrowth of the two
hormone (starts after puberty). jaws, the molar bones and
supraorbital ridges. Hands and
feet are also enlarged. There is
bowing of the spine. The
subcutaneous tissues of hand,
feet, scalp, nose, lips and skin
increase in amount. Metabolism
is high. Patients may suffer from
hyperglycemia, glycosuria,
increased B.M.R and sweating.
